The 1974 Aluminum is one of the rarest coins in existence. When the price of copper got high in the 1970’s, the US Mint began looking for an alternative. The mint struck pennies and distributed a few to members of Congress. It’s unclear how many remain.
This really cool coin design is perfect for any numismatist or coin collector. Anyone truly into the hobby will recognize that these are some of the rarest US Coins in existence. This specimen is held at the Smithsonian Museum of American History.
